The Interdisciplinary Studies BA Completion program at California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) focuses on social justice topics within the themes of: Self in Society, Culture and Community, and Global Studies. In addition, students have the option to pursue a minor in Critical Psychology (CP). Most students (78%) complete the program of study within 1 year (3 semesters) and a few require a 4th semester, depending on units transferred. We are an adult-learner model. The average age of our students is 35, and students range in age from 72-22. Students enter with substantial life experiences and are already engaged in community, arts, activism, and social change endeavors. They are internally motivated and self-directed. The program creates opportunities to pursue projects that continue to support their life, professional, and activist commitments. Students minoring in CP typically are aware of the limitations and problems of mainstream psychology and are looking to develop language to support their work as advocates, activists, therapists, and parents within the multitude of contexts where psychological theory is employed as an unquestionable authority.
